ABOUT
Dr Jason Cheng is an experienced surgeon with a special interest in the management of cataract and glaucoma. He performs complex cataract operations often in combination with glaucoma procedures, including iStent, XEN, Hydrus, iTrack/ABiC, MiniJet, Preserflo, GATT, ECP, micropulse, subcyclo-diode laser, Trabeculectomy and Tube implants.
Dr Cheng completed his ophthalmology training at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, London rotation. He then went on to sub-specialise in Glaucoma from 2 fellowships: St Thomas' Hospital, London and the Toronto Western Hospital, Canada, with a scholarship from the Royal College of Ophthalmologist, London.
Prior to moving to Australia, Dr Cheng worked in Singapore for 3 years as a consultant ophthalmologist where he won awards from the Ministry of Health and National University of Singapore. He is currently a Glaucoma specialist at Sydney Eye Hospital, St George Hospital, Liverpool Public Hospital and conjoint senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales and lecturer at the University of Western Sydney. He is also a faculty member of the Sydney Eye Hospital MIGS course.
His international appointments include Secretary of the Gateway Standing Committee and Associate member of the Congress Standing Committee of the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO).
Dr Cheng is an active member of the Australian Ophthalmology College (RANZCO) as an OBCK Examiner, Global Eye Health committee member, collaborative care working group member and Panel Member for the Scientific Programme Committee.
Dr Cheng maintains an interest in
research and has published multiple books, book chapters and articles and is a site investigator for several multi-centre clinical and surgical trials/registries. He is on the editorial board of "Eye" Journal, the official journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmology, London and is a co-author of the children's book
"Amazing Amber And Her Lazy Laser Eye" which promotes eye health to children.
Dr Cheng has been a medical volunteer in Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Ghana, Pakistan, Cambodia, Fiji, and China with many organisations including Fred Hollows, Orbis, Sight For All and China Vision Australia and was the HSBC Sydney 7's tournament ophthalmologist in 2020. He also fund raised for Fight For Sight when he completed the London Marathon in 2010.
